AMANDA FERGUSON in Belfast pubs
Saturday, October 17, 2020

Sometimes being a journalist involves going to the pub. I don't make the rules!
I love the pub. I make no apologies for saying so.
It is an integral part of Irish life so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to capture what it means to people just as the shutters were being pulled up because of the latest Covid-19 restrictions.
I have been working on Ireland (both jurisdictions) stories for The Washington Post since 2018.
You can read my piece on what pubs mean to us here: WAPO PUBS STORY
There was a lovely, positive response to the piece online so thanks to you all and to all my interviewees.
Charles McQuillan did the wonderful photographs for the story Getty for WaPo.
And the cover photo for this amanda.ie post is my own iPhone photograph of James Ashe's print hanging in The American bar which sums up the current mood pretty well.
Cold creamy pints on the other side of this are going to taste unreal.
Stay safe. Amanda
